Chop-Shop Customs owner Lenny Schaeffer began his hot rod career back in the early 1980's , working in restoration and metal fabrication hot rod shops in Southern California. After returning to the East Coast in the late 1980's, Lenny worked for such notable shops as Collectible Motorcars (Tony Belli) , Blue Ribbon Restorations  and Massachusetts dealership  collision shops as auto body management. During this time he continued perfecting his metal fabrication, hot rod building & custom auto body ,as well as specialty painting craft .

Lenny's stellar work can be found in numerous movies that were filmed in the New England area  as well as Southern California.  Chop-Shop Custom's competition specialty vehicles have been Best of Show winners on the East & West Coast at major events.  The first completed vehicle from  Chop-Shop Customs, the 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle mild custom, attained top accolades at the ISCA Boston World of Wheels (Street Machine Grand Champion) as well as many other events on the East Coast .

In 2006, Chop-Shop Customs donated over 500 hours of metal fabrication ,custom auto body & paint work for the Right Coast Association 1949 Chevrolet pickup  that was given away to a lucky participant (Sally Salisbury) of the Right Coast 2006 Show series at the Syracuse Nationals Event in July 2006.

Lenny's personally built 1956 Chevrolet Belair had been featured in magazines such Speed & Chrome and Cruisin New England as well as featured car of the month on a myriad of hot rod related Internet sites . The car was also featured in the Massachusetts RMV insurance insert (2005) and the SEMA Action Network December 2005 newsletter. A video of the car was seen on Spike TV in November 2007 as well.

In 2007, Chop-Shop Customs was honored to part of the build team for the Snap -On Tools 1956 Chevrolet Nomad , the 'Glo-Mad'. This totally customized vehicle will be a traveling ambassador for Snap-On, touring the country as a tribute to auto technicians everywhere. Lenny Schaeffer and the staff from Chop-Shop Customs handled the prep bodywork and paintwork for this noteworthy project, based in Asheville ,North Carolina.

My first experience with Chop Shop Customs was in the summer of 2005. I had recently purchased a 1957 Arnolt Bristol Bolide, and was looking for someone to restore the body/ paint the car. I had decided the restoration process would be to a concourse level. I decided to give the project to Chop-Shop Customs due to their expertise with metal fabrication.

The work was done in a timely manner to a very high standard. The end result was spectacular. Having worked in the restoration business many years ago, finding a shop that completely stands behind their work is indeed rare.

This experience led me to contract with Chop-Shop Customs for several other projects. My 1968 Corvette 427/435 which has undergone a frame off restoration & a partial re-spray on my 1965 Corvette which has 11,000 original miles. These cars have one many trophies over the past year at a variety of shows.

I currently have 2 cars undergoing frame off restorations, a 1957 Corvette Fuellie and a 1951 jaguar MKV drop head coupe. .The 57 Vette is number-matching rare optioned car with a factory power top and power windows, requiring extensive fiberglass body work due to a front end collision. Only 450 MKV drop head coupes were made. The challenge with this car, other than the sheer size of it, is to restore it to original condition as parts are virtually nonexistent.

I do not think a serious "car guy" will get better value for their dollar. The fact that Chop-Shop Customs stands behind their work is just as important as the initial quality of work done.
